About Italo
I am a student at City College in San Francisco currently majoring in biology. I attended a highly competitive highly nationally ranked high school where I spent years developing effective, multiple-approach study methods to learn the content I needed to learn. Still being in the middle of my educational career, I have a unique perspective on the struggles students have and the types of obstacles they have which makes me well qualified to assist them in the process of overcoming them.
I am currently a biology major going into my second year at the City College of San Francisco. I took many AP classes in high school and scored well as well as on my SAT and ACT. I have a science heavy courseload which keeps the subjects fresh on my mind.
As far as teaching experience, I was an Explainer at the Exploratorium where I performed demonstrations, interactive learning experiences, in the sciences such as dissections.

To begin, I like to hear the topics in a specific subject they are struggling with and set up a mastery plan to reinforce the prerequisite topics to that which they are struggling with, as most of the time, these are the causes of the difficulty in learning the more complex topics. I believe in focusing on mastery of a subject and the good grade will come naturally in the process.
I have informally assisted elementary school, high school, and college aqcuantainces in their mastery of subjects such as math, economics, and psychology.
There are no shortcuts to mastery of a subject, strategy away from people offering “study hacks” or anything along those lines. Find a teacher who will help you with the goals you wish to achieve whether that be moderate assistance weekly throughout the semester to obtain a good grade, or intense multi-hour study sessions in the time leading up to a final or standardized test.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Tutors are mostly used as a cure when students should be focused on prevention. A student should ask themself if they are taking the steps towards learning a topic, if they are using all the resources available to them. This is prevention, taking care of the problem before falling behind. On the other hand, students wishing to get ahead can benefit from a tutor as well, due to the tutor giving them a person to which they can relate their educational desires with, as their peers at school might not be able to relate with the child’s goals. A student should ask themselves why they want a tutor, whether it’s to have someone to help hold you responsible for your work, or they believe it will give them shortcuts to learning a subject, and based off that reason they should decide whether hiring a tutor is right for them.
