About Amber

For the last year I've been working in a school as a Teacher's Aid. I love the one on one work with the children.

I have also been responsible for leading small groups of children for Reading and Comprehension.

I also taught a remedial math course for up to 14 students. This involved lesson planning and coming up with creative ways to teach students the material.

I have professional editing experience for published authors and business owners.

Your child's education is so important and getting them caught up in math and reading will help them excel in life. I believe in every single child I work with and I will work extremely hard to make sure they get it!

I love working one on one with kiddos. The look on their faces when they get something and you know it's really clicked with them is HUGE and so so rewarding!

The people at the phone store watched me during walk throughs and noticed that I had a long list of clients who would come in and exclusively work only with me to learn their phones and help those in their family. This led them to ask me to come in and help with the classes. I have a tremendous amount of patience.

When I had my son I found the online world of tutorials and things of that nature and really enjoyed it. I started creating courses and working with other course creators to help them put together and market their courses.

Then my son started school at a very unique charter school and I loved it so much I decided to take a position as a TA for the fourth grade. I absolutely fell in love with the one on one work.

I have been working the last year with kids in a school as a teachers aid. This was a very hands on working environment where I'd help with lesson planning, working with students one on one every single day to help them grow and learn the material they were covering.

Prior to that I worked to create tutorials and courses to teach people how to use software programs.

And for 4 years I worked in a wireless phone store and helped to teach people how to use their phones which also included running classes on the weekends to help folks learn their devices.

I get a general idea from their parent or teacher as to what they are struggling with. A team approach is really a great way to get everyone on the same page. Then I ask the student themselves what they feel they need help with.

I have the student bring some homework or past work with them so I can see where they are struggling the most. And from there we create a plan to address the immediate needs and get them where they need to be.

My focus this year has been working with 4th graders. Their skill levels ranged anywhere from 1st grade math all the way to 6th grade math so I'm comfortable in those skill ranges. Similar situation for my reading groups.

Honestly a lot of it is about chemistry. Do you two work well together. Do a skype call or a one on one meeting at a McDonalds or coffee shop and just get to know each other a little bit. Then have them do a few sample problems with you to see if the style they teach is what will work for you.

One of the students I've been working with told me that he started the year off at the 2nd grade level and because of the work the teacher and I have done with him he is now almost through the 4th grade level math. The look on this kids face was enough to fill a thousand dark corners. He was absolutely beaming and so proud of himself! And I am super proud of him.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Have you attempted the problem on your own?

Do you understand the basics of what you need to do?

If not have you asked your teacher for help? If so and you still are not getting it can you ask them to explain it in a different way?
