About Stéphane

Hi! I'm Stéphane. I am a London School of Economics graduate and an experienced Private Tutor with two years of teaching under my belt! I have helped over 15 students - half of which were referred to me by satisfied tutees via word of mouth - to significantly improve their grades, from GCSEs all the way to undergraduate studies. For example, I helped a student improve her marks from a predicted Grade 2 in her French GCSEs to a 6 in the final exam. I also mentored a student from a top London university in International Relations, helping him finish first of his cohort with a First-class mark. The key to my own success, both academically and as a teacher, has been versatility, persistence and optimism - skills which I seek to transmit to all my tutees. I will provide all the specialist subject knowledge that is required for their exams, but beyond this I will share study skills and techniques applicable to all academic pursuits, whether they be simple - effective organisation - or harder - revision strategies and note-taking. Further, I strongly believe that confidence and happiness engenders success, academic or otherwise. I will work hard to provide an atmosphere that fosters these mindsets in my students.

I am very confident that my experience and skills will be extremely valuable to students looking to pass their exams with flying colours, be it GCSEs, A levels, or even exams at university. However, I do not simply wish for my students to be excellent at taking tests. Beyond that, I aspire for them to learn how to trust themselves so that they can be happy people outside of the classrooms too. To enable this, I organise my classes so as to give plenty of space to the students' own inputs. For example, I like to begin lessons by letting the student explain to me what they have learned that week in class, which allows me to quickly spot what has not been mastered, and also helps solidify the course's content in the student's mind. The rest of the lesson depends very much on who my tutee is. Indeed, I work hard to adapt the format of the lesson to their preferred way of studying so that my sessions can be enjoyable as well as useful. However, we generally spend time solving issues they have faced in the previous lesson before preparing for the next one so that they can go to the next class feeling prepared and one step ahead.
