About Mariel
Hello! I am a recent college graduate who is on a gap year before attending medical school next fall. I have a variety of teaching experience ranging from traditional one-on-one tutoring, acting as a teaching assistant at a college level, and designing and implementing my own curricula to a full class. My expertise lay in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics and statitistics and we can together on college-entrence essays and smart study skills. I have been working with children since 2012 and I have been working in education since 2014 with middle school, high school, college, and non traditional students. I hope to continue with you! Please reach out with any questions or inquiries. References available.
I have a B.A. in Biology from Wesleyan University, where I was pre-med. I have tutored organic chemistry, general chemistry, biology, biochemistry and statistics. For multiple semesters I acted as the intro bio and elementary statistics teaching assistant. Additionally, I was a T.E.U. fellow for which I participated in a pedagogy for high school science education and then designed and implemented a curricula for the local magnet school. While studying abroad I designed the lab curricula for the University of Glasgow's physics class.

My first meeting with a new student has little academic focus (so it's free!). We just talk about our interests outside of the classroom. It's important I humanize myself and ensure my students feel comfortable with me! Then we will discuss my student's goals. We identify any anxieties surrounding the subject and make a clear plan to attack them. The ending of our first meeting involves creating a study calander which outlines what I expect my student to complete before meeting again. This involves organizing the material, making me a copy of the syllabus, and preparing what they would like to review.
I have worked with middle school students, high school students, college students and a non-traditional student. The non-traditional student was returning to school to become a P.A.
Look for someone with a positive attitude, willingness to be flexible in their teaching style, and has ample experience working with different types of students.

I worked with Mariel on gen chem. She was very flexible with how she taught and adjusted her teaching style to fit me (I'm very much a visual learner so she used a lot of videos, pictures). She would also send me great Khan Academy videos between our sessions to help me review.
Mariel is awesome! She has a great manner about her, super professional yet friendly. She worked with my daughter on 9th grade science and math. She even helped my daughter design her science fair project! I highly recommend her.
There is nothing negative I could ever say.
She are a nice person with a good heart and a brilliant mind.
She is very patient when she teaches and she has a gift for explaining difficult concepts very easily in a manner that is easy to understand.
She helped me to create notes of the material so I had an easy to understand visual map to guide me through my studies.
She was always punctual and continued to help me solve problems even after our scheduledtutoring time.View more recommendations
