About Connie
In my studio we use drums or other instruments to learn and improve our understanding of rhythm and reading. We march, clap, dance etc. to a popular song to feel the beat. We have rewards, competitions and games to help motivate and learn.
I really love working with people (especially children) and seeing them learn and understand new concepts and skills. I get great satisfaction when a student "gets" something!
I taught music at an elementary school and there were students that would ask all the time if I would teach them how to play the piano. Between that and some children in my neighborhood asking me if I would teach them, I decided to teach piano and I LOVE it!
I taught general music at an elementary school, completed and passed RCM Pedagogy Levels 1 -4 course and the Frances Clark Center Intermediate Pedagogy course. I belong to and participate in the MTNA and UMTA. I have always made a habit of studying music throughout my life. I started taking piano lessons when I was in first grade. I have also studied harp and continue to study voice and organ.

The first thing I like to do is meet with the student and parent/guardian. At this time, the student can play something for me that they have learned (from a previous teacher or if they’ve taught themselves) show me their sight reading skills and knowledge of theory etc. This is a time they can let me know what they expect from lessons and we can discuss studio policy. We would discuss the books to be used and how a typical lessons would go.
I love working with beginners of all ages! I have worked with students that have taken for two or three years and some that have never had a music lesson in their life. I have students in high school, junior high and elementary school.
You can learn a lot just by talking to the teacher you are thinking about. If you can meet in person that is even better. You need to feel comfortable with your teacher. I think that is one of the most important things.
We have had recitals at Piano Gallery where they have two pianos and we have had ensembles of 2 students per piano. The most recent we did an ensemble that involved popping balloons as part of the piece! It was fun for the kids and audience!

She is an amazing, patient teacher. My kids weren't too excited about piano to start but I really wanted them to have that skill. Now with basic skills under their belts, they are excited and loving it. I would recommend Connie to anyone looking for lessons!
She is an expert with her knowledge of music and she is kind. She has a love for music that shows through each of the lessons and is contagious, which is exactly what you want the kids to feel. Kids learn theory and skill in a fun way.
