About Amy

Time to take the next step to becoming the singer you are meant to be! Amy will help you get to know your voice better, practice proper technique, improve vocal health, increase range & projection, elevate confidence & enhance performance. With an emphasis in contemporary techniques, the curriculum is always shaped to fit your individual needs. Lessons are available weekly, bi-weekly, every other week, or on an as needed basis. Lessons are offered in Orem & Lehi as well as online via Skype or FaceTime! Amy has been teaching for over 10 years. Her expansive experience in vocal technique, vocal health, teaching, performing, touring, and recording has made her a powerhouse vocal coach for those looking to develop and excel in contemporary vocal performance.

After studying Commercial Music at Brigham Young University, Amy released two EPs with her rock band, The Whits. She appeared on NBC’s The Sing-Off with the a cappella groups Noteworthy & Delilah, with whom she has toured internationally in both Asia and Europe. In 2013, Amy was on NBC’s The Voice, she released her first solo single and toured with other artists from the top 32. Soon after, Amy was cast as the vengeful “Florence” in an original rock opera, Deep Love. The show has toured the country and is produced each year in the fall. Amy released her debut solo EP in early 2015, has since been involved in various recording and performing projects, and was co-host of the TV show Backstage Avenue. After touring with Deke Sharon’s Vocalosity from 2015-2017, Amy found herself back in Utah with her love for a cappella rekindled. She is now the Artistic Director of BYU Noteworthy, fronts Toned Entertainment’s party band Synergy, is involved in a variety of studio & stage projects as well as teaching voice, piano, and musical theatre.

I’ve been teaching since I was first asked to be a section leader in my middle school choir! For as long as I can remember, I’ve been passionate about helping others to build their self-confidence, grow their musical mind & understanding, and empower themselves to become strong & honest performers.

I graduated from BYU in Commercial Music with an emphasis in contemporary voice. My time at BYU included extensive training in vocal technique, live performance, studio performance and vocal pedagogy. I have over a decade of experience in teaching voice and performance coaching, including workshopping with groups of singers all over the world. In addition to my teaching experience, I have toured internationally for several years with various theatre and stage productions, been involved in hundreds of recording sessions, and have directed multiple a cappella groups and musical projects.

I offer a free trial mini-lesson to make sure we jive! We’ll go over exercises, lesson structure and goals. At that point, we’ll decide together what would be best in terms of lesson length (30 min or 45 min) and frequency of lessons (weekly or bi-weekly). For voice students, I’ll ask that you have a couple tunes to sing for me our first lesson so that I can get to know your voice better and begin creating a more personalized curriculum.

My students are from all different backgrounds with vastly different interests and musical goals. I have taught both males and females, ages 8-60! The majority of my students are females age 10-40. I love teaching all levels! However, if you’re looking to seriously pursue singing & performing at a professional level, I am definitely your girl!

Trust your instincts when it comes to finding a teacher for yourself. Don’t settle for someone you don’t jive with! Even if someone is an expert in their field, it doesn’t mean they’ll be a good fit. Singing is especially vulnerable. Though it is a skill that can be developed with certain tools and persistent practice, it requires connecting with your soul to truly excel. Make sure your teacher is upbeat, positive, your #1 cheerleader, and truly invested in your goals and success!

I recently sang at an event honoring the life of a distinguished businesswoman in my community. I had no personal tie to her or anyone that was a part of the program that evening. I felt out of place when I arrived. Though I've been singing professionally for a decade, I often question why anyone would want to hear me sing! So I said a little silent prayer that the performance would go well and I immediately felt such a strong impression that someone at this event needed to hear me sing this song. As soon as the event ended, a woman came up to me, gave me a hug and thanked me through her tears. She told me she had just recently been diagnosed with lung cancer and that after hearing my song, she felt peace for the first time in weeks. She said she knew everything was going to be okay. Music is powerful! It's magnifying, it's unifying, it's healing. This is why I sing and this is why I teach!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
There are a few questions you can ask yourself in order to begin deciphering your personal needs and goals. It’s okay if you don’t have all of the answers! But this is a good start to get the juices flowing.

-Who are some of your favorite singers and performers? Why?

-What are some of your favorite songs to sing along to?

-What do you know about vocal technique? Do you want to learn more about how the human voice works?

-Do you have a foundational understanding of your voice?

-What styles of singing do you naturally gravitate toward?

-Do you need help developing your own personal vocal style and artistry?

-How would you evaluate your stage presence? Do you feel you need improvement in your stage presence?

-Do you need tools to help overcome stagefright?

-Are you comfortable singing in a studio setting?

-Are you interested in pursuing a career in singing?

30-min lessons are $40. 45-min lessons are $50. 60-min lessons are available upon request for event preparation. Payment is worked out individually with each student, though we typically follow a pay as you go plan. I do this because I value flexibility in lesson length needs and rescheduling. I simply require that I receive notifications of any cancelations at least 12 hours before our scheduled lesson. Without this advanced notice, you will be charged 50% of the price for that scheduled lesson.
