One of the replacements I thought would be hardest to find upon moving to Oside ended up being the easiest! My son has been playing piano for about four years now and so it was super important to find a piano instructor that he would vibe with. For a 10+year old, he is quite picky and particular when it comes to those he learns with and from so I just knew this was gonna be no simple task. Six months prior to moving I began the search and can I just say, I never knew there was such a draught of male pianist that work with children!

I ended up broadening out my search from just in-home lessons to include studios and finally hit the jack pot. We met with Mr. Matthew during a free consultation and I have never seen my son so excited to play piano before. I signed him up that very day. It typically takes awhile before I can trust people alone with my son and that just was never even an issue here. The two of them hit it off right away and my son even kicked me out of the studio because he felt so safe.

When I asked my son why he preferred Mr. Matt over his last teacher, he, being the kind-hearted softy that he is, said he didn't want to hurt his other teacher's feelings. I promised him I wouldn't tell his former teacher so in keeping with said promise, I won't reveal exactly what he told me. But I will let him speak for himself.

"Mr. Matt is so cool! He makes learning fun. He makes me love piano. Mr. Matt is super creative, fun, and the nicest person on earth. He is good at allowing me to make my own musical selections. Whether I want to play classical or pop, he's on it. He's always ready, prepared, and so hip. Mr. Matt cares about me as a person and makes me laugh. He's goofy just like me and teaches me the best way so I can learn. I'm glad I can work with him virtually from home during the pandemic but I can't wait til I can go back to the studio to jam it out with him."

It's such an amazing feeling to hear my son say such heartwarming words about his piano instructor. He clearly looks up to Mr. Matt as an individual and instructor. I get such joy out of seeing my son practicing outside of his routine practice times at home and not just when he's on time-out in his room. Wether it be watching him explore learning how to play songs online or moving ahead in his music books on his own, or playing by reading actual notes, I know that every amazing thing he does is all thanks to Mr. Matt. Admittedly, his playing is one of those dreams I am living vicariously through him, but it's so nice to see him owning the love of playing for himself!
