About Paula
I teach pottery skills online, in person or as a group.
My unique process helps a student learn skills quickly by utilizing a unique 5 step process.
1. The clay is prepared and laid out.
2. A pattern and form is chosen.
3. Textures, stencils or 3-D embellishments are applied
4. colorful slips are applied
5. The project is assembled.
By using this process a group or individual can make mugs, vases, bowls, dishes or other things in less than 1 1/2hr.
The project is then dried, bisque fired and glazed clear to reveal the brilliant colorful result. I do this in my studio and return the fun back to your group! In the same time it takes to enjoy a paint your own event you will have an item to cherish forever!
The secret to successful pottery is the less you fuss with it the better the outcome. Make something with skill and precision the first time around! I give you the directions and tools. The creative part of texturing and painting are up to you, and there are lots of examples to show how much fun you can have!
Ceramics was my major in college and I have been a potter for over 40 years! Let’s get started!
Ive been teaching clay skills since 2016 when I completed my studio. After many painful sessions of watching students overwhelmed by the experience of what it takes to make a satisying end result, I took matters into my own hands!
Clay is like building with lumber, except it moves and shrinks constantly! This resulted in a lot of frustration for my students. After teaching a blind student how to make fun and rewarding projects, I discovered by keeping the steps simple, clear and using the right tools, every student could just have fun with their ideas. This method created a system to help others have a whole lot of muddy fun and use their own creativity to embellish their project.
My teaching is borne out of a sincere desire to help others know the reward of sitting down and making an item out of clay and fall in love with the imperfect-perfection of an expression that flowed out of their heart and hands. They often give them away to loved ones so that adds to the joy!
After over 40 years of clay work and education, I still learn new things everyday. I still make mistakes and find new solutions. Clay work is a science and one never tires of learning.
I use this constant learning experience and knowledge to enhance the experience for others by giving them the stucture and tools to create a form they can be proud of and yet allow them the joy of decorating, texturing and painting each piece to make it their own! Kind of like a paint your pottery class but your hands have touched every detail, making it intimately yours to keep forever!

My pocess is so super easy that even the most insecure, first time student is guaranteed a pleasing result! There are an abuldant things to know about clay, firing and glazing that I stick to my own process that is much like making a dress. By using patterns a student can decorate the prepared clay, cut it out and assemble on the form it will dry on. This insures success! I do the bisque and glaze firing and they have all the fun of putting their personality and color into a piece of pottery they will love forever!
As young as second graders. I feel any younger they lose focus too quickly.

I create a line of fun colorful jewelry using clay and glasses that form a sparkle. Sparkk Jewelry is myown creation and women love them! I enjoy selling them at festivals and being with other creators who get themselves out there!

3" candy or ring dish - $18
6" dish for cooking or cactus - $22
6" mug - $22
8-12 items - $25
There are many forms but this is the basic structure. Each complete class has a $40 fee for materials, travel and firings. For travel beyond 50 miles an additional $.40 per mile is added.
