About Kelsey
Hello! My name is Kelsey Vidal and I am a 2nd grade teacher in Fairfax County. I have worked in 2nd grade for the past 3 years and have worked with language learners, students with disabilities, and any more. In addition, I have tutored students ages 7 - 16. I have tutored students in general reading, writing, math, handwriting, science, social studies, and Spanish. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I will only be tutoring via an online platform. I look forward to hearing from you!
I attended James Madison Univeristy where I received a Bachelor of science in Interdisciplinary liberal studies with a focus in elementary education and a minor in Spanish. After my 4 years of undergraduate work, I attended JMU for an additional year where I received my Masters degree. I am currently a 2nd grade teacher in Fairfax County where I have worked for the past 3 years. I have worked with students with disabilities and language learners. I am currently taking courses through UVA to receive my Special Education Endorsement.

When working with a new student, I generally like to start with the students strengths and weaknesses. I find that identifying a students strengths can help when coaching and teaching them. Once these have been identified, I begin teaching the areas of need. A session might consist of a review activity on known content (giving the student a chance to feel successful); teaching new content through explicit modeling; using/doing the new content with the student; and finally having the student try the new content independently.
I have worked with students ages 5-16. These students have been those with cognitive disabilities, English language learners, students who need a challenge, those who need retracting, and more.
