About Kelly
I work on creating a resonant and freely produced sound throughout all the registers. My goal is to promote healthy vocal technique while having full engagement in a song. I believe that singing is about conveying your emotion, your engagement, and your character's situation to the audience. Once your voice is lined up with great technique, your true voice will begin to surface with an increased vocal range, resonance, and heightened flexibility. You will explore who YOU are as a singer and discover what repertoire works best for you. I'd love to hear more about your goals as a performer and how we can work together to help you achieve those goals!
I am passionate about connecting students to their own unique voice through discovering the relationship between the body, the brain, vocal discipline, and personal expression. I love helping my students to achieve their goals!
While at Rutgers University I started teaching non-music majors. I found that I really enjoyed and looked forward to teaching each week. From then on I knew I wanted to keep sharing my techniques and habits for singing with others.
I am a vocal teacher and coach who specializes in classical voice techniques and singing for musical theater. In my lessons, I focus on helping students understand how to prepare a character and a situation for every song they sing while paying close attention to phrasing, diction, breath support, and musicality. I also teach acting lessons and coach monologues for musical theater. I have tutored in college-level music theory and music history. While I was pursuing my B.A at NYU, I performed in leading roles in operas such as Le Nozze di Figaro while continuing to perform in community productions such as You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown at local theaters. As I pursued my Master’s degree, I took private lessons from Grammy-winning opera singers such as Eduardo Chama, all while continuing to sing and perform locally. My education in music has taught me to value the relationship between instructor and student, as I know that I learned best when I felt that my instructor was committed to my improvement as a singer.

My students and I talk about their long-term goals from our first lesson. I always ensure that they can see the big picture that I can see, and our lessons are never only about improving the song or scene that they are working on in the lesson. I try to help my students see the connection between improving their performance techniques and preparation practices and their long-term improvement as a performer. By emphasizing this aspect of our lessons, I believe that my students are able to focus both on what is in front of them for that week and the goals that we want to achieve together in the future.
I have students that range from age 4 to 65! I work with levels ranging from beginner to professional.

Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Her instruction is clear and specific, and she follows exercises with an explanation of how they effect the vocal mechanism. She is a great champion of her students, combining her technical expertise with her performance experience. I have always found her to be helpful and accommodating, happy to direct her students to good technique and great performance. Kelly is a rare find of a voice teacher.
I can't recommend Kelly highly enough. She has a solid, comprehensive technical background combined with a fun delivery. Kelly has led me forward, enabling me to make consistent progress over my two years studying with her.
I find voice lessons with Kelly both deeply enjoyable and thorough. She's great with technique and doesn't let you off the hook easily! At the same time, she makes sure that there is enough time to enjoy the songs you are working on, while giving you very to-the-point feedback. She is highly focused (and fun) and definitely put me on the road to viewing my voice as a professional instrument.
I had never really connected with a voice teacher until I met Kelly. I feel, for the first time, like someone is speaking my language. I understand my voice now as my own, instead of what a teacher tells me I should sound like, or trying to fit into a sound or measure up to an idea in my head. It feels like I'm uncovering the voice that I have inside, but have never heard until now. Lessons are engaging, challenging and they are a partnership from beginning to end!
Kelly is a phenomenal teacher. Her strength lies in her technical articulateness combined with her understanding and patience for my process as a student. I always feel comfortable with her, especially since I know that she is a working actress/singer herself. She knows how to incorporate instruction on relieving tension, acting a song, having fun....basically you name it, she knows how to do it! Kelly puts me at ease even when I am cracking, yet I trust her to tell me the truth when I need it. I recommend her ten times over.
Thank you so much for being such patient, a great vocal coach and person! I really appreciate that you take a lot of time at every lesson to be sure that I understand everything, even if every lesson went over far beyond the 60 minutes, and of course taking time between the lessons when I have questions. Every lesson is a real experience and I know you enjoy every lesson as much as I do!
Kelly’s solid teaching methods are informed by her varied experiences as a gifted performing artist as well as her ability to clearly communicate. As a result, I have seen significant improvements in my singing technique and increased confidence in my vocal performances!
Kelly is a fantastic teacher who we would recommend without hesitation. Kelly partners the dynamics of voice, proper breathing techniques and performing skills to make sure her students reach their full potential. While working with her, my daughter has built a diverse repertoire of performance pieces, expanded her range and learned a solid foundation of voice instruction. Her fun and dynamic lessons would benefit singers of any level.
