"Ruth Ann possesses musical assets uncommon to many musicians. She immersed herself in music from an early age, playing violin, piano and then singing. Her soprano voice is clear, free and soars with ease, which has given her ample opportunity as a performer - both onstage and as a recitalist.
As a mother, she knows the importance, need and power of music in the life of a child. Thus, her talents have broadened to include teaching and loving children with music. She understands and has the unique capacity to help children experience the expanded wealth of life that is achieved when art and music become a daily compliment to life-long-learning. This includes songs she has written herself (both text and music) specifically to help young people to be attracted to and blessed by the power of words and music."
Nancy Griffen
Music Mentor with Utah Festival Opera & Theatre Outreach Program
Professional Accompanist
...“Not only does she (Ruth Ann Nielsen) have a most accomplished soprano voice, but she is also very adept at working with children to teach and inspire them through music."
Brigadoon by Lerner and Loewe - by Howard Pearson, Deseret News Entertainment Editor
“The cast boasts a very lovely young lady with a beautiful voice and the facial countenance to match the fantasy qualities of the story in Ruth Ann, who plays Fiona. Her singing of “Waitin’ for My Dearie” with the women’s chorus, and of “The Heather on the Hill” with Tommy and “Almost Like Being in Love,” again with Tommy, and also “From This Day On” are among the musical highlights of the production.”
Brigadoon by Lerner and Loewe – by John Gutman, Tribune Staff Writer
“Ruth Ann is enchanting as the love which captures Tommy’s heart and ultimately redirects his life. Her expression of frustration and the transition to ecstasy in first failing, then finding the love of her life, are both evident. Her Scottish accent is appealing and she brings a sense of under acting and blending into the whole of the fantasy story which adds a valuable dimension to her part. Additionally, her exceptional singing voice blended well with the considerable vocal talents of Mr. Clyde.”
Die Fledermaus (Opera) by Strauss – by Shelby R. Seem, III, News Net
“The beautiful Ruth Ann, as Adele, the maid, possesses a gorgeous lyric soprano voice and is delightful in her characterization.”
Desert Song (Operetta) by Sigmund Romberg – by Howard Pearson, Deseret News Entertainment Editor
“Take Ruth Ann, who plays Margot, the French visitor in the land of Morocco of 1925, who falls in love with the Red Shadow. Without any effort, she soars to the heights with a golden voice that’s reminiscent of Jeanette Macdonald’s, only Ruth Ann has a depth and power that sound technicians had to give to Miss Macdonald. Ruth Ann goes through “Romance,” “The Desert Song” and all the rest as if they had been written for her. ....her acting lives up to her singing. But it’s her singing voice that deserves the real raves. She reaches top range without a flaw.”
Desert Song (Operetta) by Sigmund Romberg – by Terry Orme, Tribune Staff
“Ruth Ann (Nielsen), as the petite Margot Bonvelet, performed Sigmund Romberg’s songs extremely well. She exhibited good range on “Romance” and handled the nuances of “The Desert Song” maturely.”
Utah Symphony Concert – by George Raine, Tribune Staff Writer
“Ruth Ann Nielsen, soprano, lent her very beautifully natural voice to a fine presentation to a Puccini aria from “Gianni Schicchi.” With lovely lyricism and purity of tone, she sang it for all its warmth and charm.”
New Moon (Operetta) by Sigmund Romberg – by Howard Pearson, Deseret News Entertainment Editor
“For one thing, Theatre 138 has cast some of the most talented singers in the state and when Ruth Ann, who plays Marianne, sings any one of her numbers, the notes just go soaring into the hearts and feelings of everyone in the audience. When Ruth Ann sings, “One Kiss,” for instance, there was nary a stir in the capacity audiences.”
I love to witness the many improvements of my students and how much self-confidence they gain!
I have been teaching for more than 30 years. It happened naturally as I was regularly performing and people approached me for lessons.

I was recently the Classical Music Director of Riverton City.
We had a performance night at "The Dome" for the community called, "Opera and Hors d' oeurvres."
A variety of performers showcased their talents as the audience was served by young teenaged waiters.
I performed "In Quelle Trine Morbide" by Puccini
Everyone seemed to have an enjoyable experience!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Choose a short term goal to work on immediately.
What is a loftier goal for the future?
Think about what kinds of vocal issues you have that you would like to resolve.
One example is how to sing in the upper range with total freedom and ease.

Ruth is so knowledgeable! Her teaching style is kind and loving, I’ve been to other teachers, and they pale in comparison. I feel that I have learned so much and my singing technique has improved so much in such a short time. I used to dread practicing, but with Musical Mirror, I can’t wait until my next lesson! Ruth is a really wonderful teacher!
What a wonderful teacher!! My children and I have been taking voice and piano lessons from her for a few years. She is patient, kind and loving. She cares about more than just our musical success, she cares about us as people too. She is more than just a music teacher. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking to learn to sing and play piano.
I have only been with her for a short time, but I can already tell that I am making progress. She is very supportive and positive. I look forward to my lessons.
She is a very skilled and knowledgeable teacher! She has been teaching me and 2 of my sons piano and one of my sons took voice lessons from her. I saw a huge improvement in his singing! We love Ruth and would recommend her to anyone who would like to learn piano, violin or voice.
