About Lauren
Hi :) I'm Lauren and I'm a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering who has been tutoring maths and physics for over 5 years. I can help you achieve your goal, whether that be preparing for exams, improving general understanding or building confidence in a subject.
I pride myself on providing clear explanations and helping students to see the applications of what they're learning so that they become independent thinkers.

I have been tutoring maths, physics and a bit of chemistry and biology for over 5 years whilst at university.
I have mainly tutored at SQA National 5 and Higher level which roughly equates to GCSE and A level.
For exam preparation/school learners, I use past papers to develop the student's understanding of the kind of questions asked in exams year after year. Areas of misunderstanding can be identified and lessons can focus on resolving these areas in particular, along with general preparation. Concepts are often reintroduced cyclically and expanded upon to a develop deeper understanding of the material and ultimately, boost confidence and performance. I use diagrams and analogies to help students visualise and understand problems and concepts.
I am also passionate about teaching more broadly to both children and adults who are just interested in science and want to learn more! My interdisciplinary background allows me to teach science in different ways e.g examples of medical physics or biomedical electronics. These lessons can consist of delving into a latest scientific news story or just learning about how things work e.g. MRI, CT or ultrasound scans.
My lessons are usually 1 hour long and allow a few minutes at both ends of the lesson to discuss the student's progress or goals, and to make any requests.
I'm happy to accommodate requests for longer lessons too.
