About Alec
I’m a Physics tutor with over 4 years of experience and an MPhil in Physics. My teaching blends science with the arts, focusing on how physics interacts with cultural heritage. I specialize in the interdisciplinary study of light, pigments, and materials used in art and restoration. My approach explores how physics helps us understand and preserve artworks. I teach concepts like light reflection, absorption, and scattering through real art historical examples. Students learn about material analysis, conservation science, and the physical behavior of paint, canvas, stone, and other media. I place strong emphasis on non-destructive testing techniques such as XRF, IR imaging, and UV fluorescence. These tools reveal what lies beneath the surface of a masterpiece—without causing harm. I support students in learning how physical data informs decisions in art restoration and preservation. I have worked closely with art history students, conservators, and those passionate about the intersection of science and culture. My sessions often include case studies and hands-on exercises. I believe in making complex scientific ideas accessible and engaging for all learners. Together, we’ll explore how physics can unlock the hidden stories behind art. My teaching approach in Physics is gentle, reflective, and rooted in curiosity. I focus on helping students explore scientific concepts through practical inquiry and hands-on learning. From classical mechanics to modern physics, I guide learners to connect theory with real-world experiments.
I pay special attention to experimental design, data analysis, and error propagation. Students learn how to collect, interpret, and report data accurately. I also help them develop strong skills in writing clear, scientific lab reports and presenting their findings confidently.
Each lesson encourages questions, exploration, and independent thinking. I support students in becoming DIY scientists—creative, thoughtful, and confident in their approach. Whether it’s designing a simple experiment or analyzing complex results, I make sure they understand every step.
My sessions are tailored to each learner’s pace and curiosity. I guide them in building a deeper connection with physics and discovering how to think like a scientist. Together, we’ll explore, reflect, and uncover new ways to understand and investigate the physical world.
