About Joe
Hi, I’m Joe — a passionate science tutor with a Master’s in Bioinformatics and a Bachelor’s in Biology with a minor in Outdoor Education. I’ve worked in federal microbiology labs, managed research projects, and taught in classrooms, giving me a rare mix of real-world science experience and hands-on teaching skills. I specialize in making complex science concepts approachable and engaging, whether it’s for high school biology, AP courses, or students just looking to strengthen their understanding. My lessons are interactive, tailored to each student’s pace, and grounded in practical examples from my lab work and scientific research. Outside the classroom, I’m a marathon runner, avid traveler, and scuba diver, which gives me a unique perspective and lots of real-world examples to make science relatable and exciting. I’m committed to helping students build confidence, spark curiosity, and genuinely enjoy learning science.

Joe’s Tutoring Approach I focus on making science clear, engaging, and real. My approach combines my years of hands-on lab experience with proven teaching strategies. I break complex concepts down into simple, relatable explanations, often using real-world examples from research and experiments to help students connect what they’re learning to actual science. A typical lesson starts with a quick review of concepts, followed by interactive exercises where students apply ideas to problems or mini experiments (hands-on when possible). I encourage questions and discussions throughout, making sure students don’t just memorize, but truly understand the material. Lessons often end with a short recap and tips for remembering key points. What sets me apart is my unique mix of experience: I’ve worked in federal microbiology labs, managed complex research projects, and hold a Master’s in Bioinformatics, but I also have classroom teaching experience. This means I know how to translate advanced science into lessons that students can grasp and enjoy. My lessons are ideal for: Middle and High school students struggling or wanting to excel in science, math, or technology Students preparing for Natural Sciences, Statistics, Biology, Anatomy, Regents, or standardized tests Anyone curious about real-world biology or who wants a practical, hands-on understanding of science, and real-world programming/statistics.
