  • When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. My mother was an art tutor so we always had students coming to our home to learn from her and I would casually sit in with her and use the time to develop my own skills. I became particularly interested in portraiture at a very young age and started dabbling in realism as a whole. This made my drawing skills very strong and eventually I took up Art & Design at O'level and received a 'Top in the World' award for my portfolio submission. From here, I was able to convince my parents to let me pursue art at university level and enrolled at Concordia University in their highly acclaimed Film Animation program.
  • What makes you passionate about your subject?

I spent most of my childhood with a drawing pencil in hand so it is needless to say that drawing and painting is second nature to me. I truly recognized my passion amidst the struggle to convince my South-Asian parents to let me pursue this as a career since that is when I realized I could not be happy doing anything else. This passion extends beyond just creating art, it is also for sharing my work, learning new things within this vast world of art and teaching others all that I have learnt.
  • What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

My absolute favorite part about tutoring is learning from my students! Every single student I've had has taught me a new way of approaching drawing, painting and animation. It is so inspiring to see a student take something they have learnt from me and apply it to their work in their own unique way. I genuinely believe I become a better teacher with each student I teach.
  • Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

My 3rd grade teacher is someone I will never forget. She was always so kind and loving towards every single one of her students and paid special attention to each of us. I was a timid student who was simply shy of adults and she made every effort to have me open up and feel more confident instead of feeling frustrated at my reluctance to participate. I remember looking up to her and thinking I wanted to grow up and be a teacher just like her. I try my best to channel that same kind of attitude in each of my classes.
  • What are your keys to success?

I feel like my answer to this question will keep evolving as I grow older. For now, however, here's a little list of how I currently strive towards success:
Consistency! No matter how good or bad I am at something, I try to stay consistent with it! Even if it doesn't feel like you're making progress in the moment, you see how rewarding consistency is in due time.
Ask questions! My father has taught me that there is no such thing as a stupid question. It's better to ask 100 questions and be sure of what you are doing than to ask no questions and remain unsure.
Compassion. I came from a very competitive school environment into a university where most people in class would wholeheartedly help me with anything if I asked. Those are the same people I saw flourish and learn the most!
