About Federico

I am a PhD economist at UCL with a research background spanning finance and applied econometrics. I spent a year as a Research Fellow at Bocconi working on asset pricing and financial econometrics. I have also been a visiting researcher position at the Bank of England. Before the PhD I was an economist at Frontier Economics, where valuation and financial analysis was part of the job.

UCL MSc and MRes in Economics with Distinction, Warwick BSc with First Class Honours. Over 400 hours of teaching, and I currently teach third-year undergraduates at UCL as a Teaching Assistant.

Most finance tutoring is delivered by people who learnt the formulae from the same slides the student is looking at. I have used this material in research and in commercial work where the numbers had consequences, which is why I can tell you which assumptions in a valuation actually drive the answer and which are decoration.

The pattern I see most often in MSc Finance students is a strong ability to execute a technique and no ability to say why it is the right technique. That survives problem sets and fails in exams and interviews, both of which are designed to test exactly that gap. I teach the reasoning first and the mechanics second, then drill both against your actual course material and past papers.

What I cover:
-Corporate finance: capital structure, cost of capital, dividend policy, M&A, capital budgeting
-Valuation: DCF, comparables, precedent transactions, LBO structure, and the sensitivity analysis that reveals what a model is really assuming
-Asset pricing: CAPM, APT, factor models, efficient markets and its empirical failures
-Derivatives: options, futures, Black-Scholes and its assumptions, hedging strategy
-Portfolio theory: mean-variance optimisation, risk measurement, performance attribution
-Fixed income: yield curves, duration and convexity, credit risk
-Empirical finance: event studies, factor regressions, backtesting in R, Python or Stata
-Financial mathematics: stochastic calculus foundations, Itô's lemma, risk-neutral pricing

I work from undergraduate through Master's level, and with professionals returning to study. Dissertation and research project supervision available, including empirical work on financial data.
