  • 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

    1. My mom is an excellent Mandarin teacher, and she has inspired me since I was a child.
    2. My grandpa is a retired professor who is deeply dedicated to the study of Chinese culture and language. Studying with him also gave me a solid foundation in Mandarin.
  • 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

Su Dongpo, a towering figure in Chinese history, was not only a distinguished literary master but also a profound thinker, statesman, and artist. His literary brilliance, polished to perfection, has left an indelible mark on the history of the Chinese language, shaping its course and enriching its soul.
  • 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

We often use imagery to convey emotions. For example, the bright moon symbolizes homesickness, the kapok flower represents heroism, "hands and feet" stand for brotherhood, and the sun embodies passion and positive energy. These images are not only found in poetry but are frequently used in modern language as well, sometimes embedded in idioms to express feelings. I find this to be a deeply romantic way of expression-the romance of the Chinese people. It's a form of expression full of imagination, adding richness to life and deepening the meaning of our human experience.
  • 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

As I mentioned before, it is so romantic and captivating. From a practical perspective, it is also one of the longest continuously used languages in the world, with a history spanning over three thousand years. Time is the ultimate touchstone-how can one not say that this language is truly beautiful?
  • 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

A lack of understanding of Chinese culture can become a barrier in the learning process. I have always enjoyed not only passing on both ancient and modern Chinese culture but also tailoring my teaching according to the students' interests. This approach will be incredibly beneficial in helping them learn.
  • 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

Recitation is a common form of expression for learners of Chinese, a way to appreciate the beauty of this language, and its widespread popularity rivals that of any language in the world. Every Chinese student is required to learn it. I excel at recitation, and through this practice, I establish a timeless connection with the creators of the texts and poems, experiencing their emotions while reflecting on my own-it's truly enchanting.
Since elementary school, I have performed recitations in front of audiences, with sometimes over a thousand people in attendance. This practice has allowed me to forge a deep and intimate relationship with the language.
  • 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

If we talk about travel, it refers to the journey I took from the age of 10 to 20, during which I maintained a continuous learning relationship with my mother and grandfather. From them, I discovered the beauty of this language and learned how to educate others effectively.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in language?

Love-this profound affection was passed down to me from my mother and grandfather. Throughout my 22 years living in China, the 500 poems I have recited have constantly inspired my mind and ignited my creativity, filling me with boundless passion for life. It is this love for Chinese culture, history, and language that has shaped me into a Superprof.
