I take a student focused approach to teaching, catering my instruction to the individual needs of the student and taking into account ability, passion and any extra needs, be they pastoral or academic. Above all I wish to foster and develop creativity. The ultimate goal of my class is to help my students build the confidence needed to find their own voice and put it down on the page. I base my classes on the university model of education but have incorporated years of tricks and approaches from the whole range of the British education system.
My class will cover the fundamental elements of storytelling with a focus on structure. Together we will explore the hidden architecture behind good storytelling that separates the hobbyists from the professionals.
Further sessions will involve analysis of existing stories, workshopping the student’s writing, and bridging the gap between learning to write, and learning to edit.
