About Theo
In my experience as a tutor, I think both patience and a good sense of humour have been key to creating a productive and enjoyable work environment. Having also received tutoring myself, I know first-hand how important it is for professionalism to be balanced with personability. My lessons are planned well into advance, and are tailored both to match the students needs and the demands of the course.
I feel incredibly lucky to have benefitted from such a rich and varied music education at Oxford university, having recently graduated with a first class degree across all modules. I leave my degree not only with a broad knowledge of the history and theory of different musical traditions, but also a renewed appreciation for them that I hope to share.

From my experience in tutoring maths for 3+ years, my teaching seeks to combine a rigorous syllabus-oriented approach with a relaxed and supportive environment that fosters an enjoyment of the subject at hand.
For music, I believe that listening is fundamental to situating historical and theoretical studies in real and relevant traditions. Although my lessons are designed to train students to succeed in their respective assessments, this goal is combined with fostering an appreciation of the music at hand, regardless of style or genre. For example, a lesson may often begin with an investigation into historical context, using listening as a means of opening discussion and drawing out observations and insights from the student.
I am able to teach students of all abilities and ages up to the level of university applicant, with the length of lessons dependant on the goals of the tutoring.
