About James
James has been playing guitar with a variety of styles and techniques for over 15 years. James offers lessons in many styles including: Jazz, Blues, Rock, Classical, and Pop among others. With a BM in Music Theory/Composition from Westminster Choir College, James applies his knowledge of Music Theory to foster a unique foundation on which the student can comfortably grow as a musician and player.
I enjoy collaborating and connecting with people while having the priviledge to make music. I also enjoy witnessing the growth of students and the enrichment that music brings to their lives.
I've always had a formal education in music throughout my life. I have been performing and playing music from Kindergarden to Carnegie. Having taken guitar, theory, and voice lessons for many years, I am intimately familiar with the structure of a typical 1 hour lesson. Aside from my work as a Guitar/Theory/Piano Instructor, I have several years of experience as a Sailing Instructor teaching a variety of different age groups.

My first goal in dealing with a new student is assessment: What do they already know, how do they know it, what are their goals, and how will they learn best? Afterwards I can give them approriate instruction that meets them at their level and helps them achieve their goals.
I have worked with mostly begginer to intermediate students.
Consider the consistent effort needed to make progress on an instrument.
If a teacher isn't suitable to your needs there should be no shame in finding a more compatible instructor.

James is a FANTASTIC guitar player and musician. His knowledge of the instrument, as well as theory, is rare, and his positive and encouraging attitude makes him a joy to work with! I would recommend him to anyone, from beginners to more advanced students. You will NOT regret signing up for lessons!
Never took lessons with him, but I’ve performed and worked with him for years. He is an excellent musician with an incredible ear. James is the best guitarist that I know, and he can break down his knowledge and skills to help just about anybody improve.
