I teach the flute from beginners to advanced students from age 6 and up. There is the option for working around graded exams or not depending on the pupils’ personal preference. Exam boards that are used are ABRSM and Trinity and also graded theory exams if the pupils require it. My aim in my lessons is for a pupil to enjoy making music along with becoming a good musician. Both musical and non-musical aspects are included in a lesson. Musical aspects include sound technique and pieces and also including theory when needed. Non-musical aspects include looking at posture and performance practice. The first half of a lesson normally focuses on technique and scales and the second half on music and other aspects of being a musician. I teach in every genre and also take requests! First lessons include a lot of questions from me! I like to know about my pupils, what their interests are in music and other hobbies. Also to find out how they will approach practice and what the purpose of the lessons is and if they have an end goal. I always bring a selection of music and styles and give examples of the different kind of route teaching could go down for adults. With young children, games are always included.
