About Lily

I'm a singing looping violinist and composer with a love for all genres. I have been a professional working and performing musician for over 15 years playing in the folk, prog rock, country, and contemporary classical worlds on the east and west coasts of the US. I have played with rap artists, performed Karnatic Raga, Irish folk music, Noise, pop, and I love to bring all of the influences of those worlds into my own music.

About the lesson

Through my own experience as a professional creative, I've experienced all of the highs and lows of songwriting and composition. I've tried writing every day, I've tried writing once a month. Lyrics were the bane of my existence for a long time. Then, harmony became the most difficult thing for me to work with. I've learned many tricks and had lots of breakthroughs, and I want to bring that experience and freedom to my students. Everyone should write songs!

My teaching structure with songwriting is usually very personalized to each student's needs. I help them figure out what their preferences and goals are, and we usually move from there using prompts and writing discipline exercises to help them access their own creative flow. My goal is to have all of my students be able to express themselves as authentically as possible in a way that feels best to them!
