About Andrew
Deciding on the right tutor for you is an important first step. If you think I can help you, then we will set up a first free meeting to discuss your needs, goals and expectations and work out what kind of support you need and devise a programme of study; or it could simply be a one-off session, depending on your circumstances. I consider every student on an individual basis and make sure that what I provide is fully appropriate to you.
I have taught at various levels both home and abroad for 30 years. and am very comfortable working with native and non-native speakers, teenagers and young adults to more mature students. As the majority of my teaching is with international students in UK universities I am very familiar with the challenges they face; from language issues to different ways of studying and learning and cultural differences and integration, which all impact on academic performance, confidence and fulfilling potential.
However, I see learning not just in terms of assessments and academic achievements but as a holistic experience where students grow and flourish as people and develop skills that they can apply right across and through their lives. I take a genuine interest in the people I teach- their background, interests and passions and I pride myself on my ability to inspire and motivate students, gently encouraging and empowering them to reach their goals, fulfil their aspirations and become all-round confident and successful people.

My classes are based on your needs and your goals
I can support/teach/mentor in a number of subject and skills areas: media studies, media practice, photography, film studies, critical reading and research skills.
Possible approaches could be
- mentoring on project work, including ideas generation, feedback, a critical eye and software support
-help with reading and writing for essay and written assignments, including recommendations of readings and guided reading tasks
-proof reading and feedback on written work
- ideas generation, devising research questions and help with choosing literature for essays and dissertations
I am very used to explaining and demonstrating complex ideas through writing and speaking in digestible and comprehensible language, good at instructing and honest in my feedback.
