About Roxanne
I grew up in Iowa, the child of an English teacher, French teacher, and debate coach mother and a church pastor and science and math teacher father. I spent summers by my mother's side as she tutored English to students who failed English during the school year. I literally learned good teaching techniques at my parents' sides. In college, I tutored a class of Asian students in understanding common English in a social and classroom setting that included vocabulary, aspects of American culture to ease their acceptance into social settings, and social culture aspects of English-speaking that created negative responses to be avoided.

My teaching approach is to first listen to the student and examine one the student's writing attempts to gauge the extent of a lack of knowledge or understandin. As with any language instruction, I use a combination of covering the basic English usage with repeated spoken sentences and using correction and repetition to solidify the learning, along with the same technique in writing in English.
