About Sarah

Hi! I'm Sarah Hayhow. I was a middle school Language Arts teacher for 10 years. I LOVE to read and write and in my spare time when I'm not hanging out with my family, you can find me reading! My goal is to help others (especially those who think they don't like reading) to find books and stories that engage and excite them! I love working with students of all abilities! I have a lot of experience tailoring lessons and activities to meet you where you are at and start to build not only your skills, but your confidence as well! Learning should be fun and that is the ultimate goal. Sure, we are going to work hard together and accomplish a lot, but I promise, we will have fun while doing it!

My Approach as a Tutor and How I Share My Knowledge

Teaching Method and Techniques: In a 1:1 tutoring session, I focus on creating a personalized and interactive learning environment. I use a mix of visual aids, real-life examples, and hands-on activities to make the material more relatable and easier to understand. I believe in active learning, where the student is encouraged to participate, ask questions, and engage in discussions. I also incorporate technology, such as educational software and online resources, to enhance the learning experience.

A Typical Lesson Plan: A typical 1:1 lesson plan starts with a brief review of the previous session to reinforce key concepts. I then introduce the new topic with a clear explanation and provide an outline of what will be covered. This is followed by a series of activities, including interactive discussions, problem-solving exercises, and practical applications. I ensure that there is a balance between theory and practice, allowing the student to apply what they have learned. The session concludes with a summary of the key points and a Q&A session to address any remaining questions.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor: What sets me apart as a tutor is my ability to adapt my teaching style to meet the individual needs of each student. I am patient, approachable, and dedicated to helping my students succeed. I take the time to understand their strengths and weaknesses and tailor my lessons accordingly. Additionally, I provide continuous feedback and support, helping students build confidence and achieve their academic goals.

Who the Lessons Are For: My 1:1 tutoring sessions are designed for students at various levels, middle school to high school. I specialize in middle grades Language Arts, and my lessons are suitable for students working in this range or higher. Whether they are beginners or advanced learners, I ensure that the content is appropriate for their level and helps them progress effectively.
