About Felix

Mentoring students has been an important part of my work experience, and I'm looking forward to applying that experience in a tutoring setting.

I received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Vermont in 2018. Since then, I have worked as a statistician at the University of California, San Diego's Antiviral Research Center and as an analyst at The New York Times' Data & Insights Group.

Through this work, I had the opportunity to publish research articles. Curious about the research publishing industry, I began to work as an editorial intern at the Technical University of Dresden and then as an assistant editor at Oxford University Press. Most recently, I managed a portfolio of applied statistics and information systems textbooks at Springer, New York.

To deepen my engagement with my writing practice, I am now pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Writing at Bard College, although I remain committed to learning and teaching math.

I approach every lesson in three parts: provide an example that shows why the lesson we are about to learn is useful, teach the core concepts and methods necessary, and practice those core concepts.

My teaching philosophy is rooted in the idea that every student brings different experience and learning methods to the classroom--so, I take as much time as necessary to explain concepts before moving on to the next step, brainstorming different examples to help the student visualize the concepts, and always give a "why" to the "what" of what we are doing.

My goal is to not only help students understand key concepts, but also to help them become better problem solvers.
