About April
Bonjour ! Je m'appelle April ! I am a certified preK–12 French teacher at K12 Private Academy. I have an M.A. in French language and literature as well an M.Ed. in curriculum and instruction. I taught French to university students for two years during graduate school where I discovered my passion for teaching. I have taught and tutored French to students in grades K-12 for the last eighteen years. As a world language teacher, I love being able to share my joy for experiencing the world and more specifically the French language and culture with my students.

Whether teaching or tutoring, I like to get to know my students and what their interests are so that I can personalize lessons to be fun, interesting, and relevant. Building a rapport with my students is crucial as language learning can often feel like a performance skill which can cause anxiety. I want my students to feel at ease around me and enjoy learning! I usually begin a lesson with a little review and then move on to engaging and interactive lesson activities while teaching the new content. I include some explicit instruction with specific examples. I incorporate practice throughout the lesson and pause frequently to check for understanding. I encourage my students to ask questions!
