About Emily
From the age of fourteen I have tutored students whose ages have ranged from three to fifty in a diverse range of subjects. I am extremely passionate about education and think that a positive and enthusiastic approach to learning is of paramount importance.
I am currently studying for an MA in English at King's College London. My undergraduate degree, for which I achieved a first class, was in English and Modern History at The University of St. Andrews, so I am extremely comfortable and keen to tutor in these subjects.
I have lots of experience working as a teaching assistant in schools, both supporting in the classroom and tutoring individuals and small groups. Thus, I am familiar with the curriculum and would be happy to support students through GCSEs and A levels in relevant subjects. Moreover, having worked at a school that caters for the poorest ward in London and endeavours to help their students get to university (in 2017, achieving a 100% success rate), I would be more than happy to help students with their university personal statements.
The majority of my tutoring experience has been in music (primarily in piano and violin), about which I am extremely passionate. I have played in hotels and for many weddings and corporate events I have prepared students for many ABRSM exams and have had a 100% success rate. I have also tutored students in music theory. Furthermore, I am equally keen in tutoring students who have chosen not to pursue grades and enjoy learning music for pleasure.
I think it is of immense importance to tailor lessons to a student's individual needs and abilities. Thus, while my general teaching style is marked by enthusiasm and a sincere desire to instil a love of learning, it is also extremely flexible and tailored to the needs of individual students. Finally, I believe that one of the most important things is for the tutor themselves to be prepared and so I exercise immense diligence and hard work in preparing for lessons.
