About Dawn
As a teacher, I enjoy helping a broad range of students to explore music in a way that best suits them. I am extremely passionate about music, and love to share this with my students, whether you’re a beginner looking to build a solid understanding of music theory or an advanced student aiming to refine your skills. I began learning the piano over a decade ago, and quickly fell in love with music. After studying piano and composition at the Birmingham Junior Conservatoire, I studied music at King's College, Cambridge, graduating with a starred first. During my time at Cambridge, I refined my understanding of music theory through study of tonal and harmonic functions, the rules of counterpoint, and through exercises such as fugue, Lied and counterpoint writing. In the later years of my degree, I increasingly specialised in analysis, deepening my understanding of (and appreciation for) music theory. Currently, I'm pursuing my master's in composition at the Royal Academy of Music, with the support of the Vaughan Williams Foundation.

Whether you want to learn about music theory for graded exams, to support your skills as a performer, or to explore music analysis and composition, I'm here to help find what works for you. With years of experience teaching both children and adults, I always tailor my lessons to the interests, goals and learning styles of my students. I understand that life can sometimes be unpredictable, so I can be flexible with the frequency and times of lessons. I'm also happy to keep in contact between lessons to answer any questions that come up during study. Above all, I aim to provide a relaxed, supportive environment where curiosity is always welcome!

Dawn taught piano to two of my daughters. She was patient, kind and very knowledgeable. Dawn was able to adapt her teaching to accommodate their learning styles. If you are looking for a piano tutor I would highly recommend Dawn.
