About Talia
I've been a tutor since 2020, when I graduated with a French degree from the University of St Andrews, where I also studied Spanish and Linguistics. During my third year, I studied at l'Université de Perpignan via Domitia in France, immersing myself in French and Catalan culture. While abroad, I participated in SCILT's Language Linking Global Thinking project, which connected language students with Scottish schools, and I have written articles for Bilingualism Matters. My day job is in sales and marketing, and I have worked for a luxury fashion company, where I used my language skills every day with French couture clients. I have previously used multilingual customer service skills in tourism, and I am passionate about promoting languages in the workplace! Whether you want to learn how to order a croissant, or you're preparing for your Higher French exam, I can provide a friendly and fun approach to language learning

My classes are fun, relaxed, and flexible, and will follow the individual needs of each pupil. Language learning is much more than verb tables! I offer 30 minute, 45 minute, and 60 minute lessons, and the topics we study are up to you! A typical lesson might look like this: 1) Recap - I'll always go over what we learnt the previous week with a little conversation practice, so you're always speaking French and revising what you've learnt! 2) Discover - a comprehension activity with a clear learning objective; new vocabulary, irregular verbs, sentence structure, etc. This could be studying the lyrics of a pop song, listening to a football commentary, or watching a Youtube clip. 3) Create - put pen to paper and your new vocab to practice! We will use inventive ways to practise French writing, and keep a record of your learning. I can cater to primary age up to Advanced Higher/A-Level, as well as adult learners: bright-eyed beginners, casual chatters, or serious students will all be supported in their language journey.
