About Lillie
Hi, I’m Lillie! I’m a Law student at Newcastle University in the UK, currently studying in New Zealand. I’ve been tutoring for the past three years.
I’ve always really enjoyed law because, although it can be challenging, it’s such a rewarding subject once things start to click. I love that moment when you go from thinking “I have no idea how I’m going to answer this” to “wait, I actually know how to work this out!”
That’s a huge part of why I enjoy tutoring. I know how daunting law can feel, especially when there are so many cases, concepts and pieces of terminology to remember. I want to help make it feel much more manageable and show students that they are capable of understanding it, rather than feeling like they simply have to memorize everything.
I’m also still a student myself, so I’m not far removed from sitting exams, preparing for assessments and figuring out what revision techniques actually work. I think this helps me relate to my students and understand the difference between genuinely understanding something and just being able to repeat it.
I want students to feel like they have someone on their side who understands what it’s like to be in their position.
Outside of my studies, I’m a massive sports fan and have a particular interest in sports law. I love seeing how law works behind the scenes in sport, from contracts and player transfers to governance, disputes and the rules that shape competitions. I’ve also always loved dance, which has been a huge part of my life alongside my studies.
Most importantly, I genuinely love getting to know my students as individuals. Everyone learns differently, and I think tutoring works best when you build a relationship where a student feels comfortable being themselves, asking questions and admitting when they don’t understand something. I want my lessons to be welcoming, relaxed and completely judgment-free.
I’ve had some amazing reviews from students over the three years I’ve been tutoring, and seeing someone’s confidence grow is honestly one of my favorite parts of it. Whether a student is aiming for the very top grades or just wants to feel more confident walking into their next assessment, I want them to leave our lessons feeling like, “I can actually do this.”

My approach to tutoring is friendly, flexible and completely centered around the student. I don’t believe there is one way to learn law, so I like to get to know each student and work out what helps them understand and remember things best.
Lessons can be adapted to whatever the student needs that week, whether that’s going over a difficult topic, preparing for an assessment, working through past-paper questions, revising key cases or improving essay technique. I like using practice questions and model answers to show students how to actually apply the law, rather than simply memorizing content.
I also want my lessons to feel relaxed and judgment-free. Students should feel comfortable asking questions, even if they think they are “stupid” questions, because asking questions is often how things start to click. I’ll explain things in a way that makes sense to them and encourage them to work through problems themselves, so they gradually become more confident and independent.
Lessons are typically around 1 hour, but I’m happy to adapt the pace and focus depending on the student and what they are working towards.
I have 3 years of tutoring experience and have received excellent reviews from previous students. I tutor NCEA Level 3 Law students, helping with everything from understanding the course content and remembering key concepts to exam preparation, essay structure and applying legal principles to questions.
Most importantly, I want students to leave lessons feeling like law is something they can actually understand and succeed in and hopefully with that satisfying feeling of, “Oh, I actually know how to work this out!”
