Chess is a recreational and competitive board game that has been around for hundreds of years and is currently played worldwide by millions of players.
Learning to play chess will help you learn some new ways to think. I've been playing chess on and off for 50 years, and I'm still thinking!

I think the important thing is to have fun. I don't really think it makes sense to learn it otherwise. You naturally do what you enjoy.
Basically, my teaching method is to teach you the rules, and then we do some sparring. Once you know how to play, you have limitless options to play humans or machines.
There is no age barrier with chess, so you can learn this to play your grandfather or learn this to play your grandson, etc. :)
