  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I have always been academic, particularly enjoying science and maths, while also passionate about working with students. I have been tutoring since 2019 both in-person and online. I'm privileged to have helped over 40 students across a huge range of ages and abilities, and continue to very much enjoy helping new students.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I help students of all ages and abilities with science and maths. I am very passionate about these subjects having taken biology, chemistry, physics and maths at A-Level before moving on to read chemistry at Oxford University.

I am very flexible to ensure lessons are tailored to each student. From following an exam specification, helping with school entrance exams, supplementing school teaching, doing past papers, to just discussing science topics to broaden and deepen understanding- I adapt the lessons for what is most helpful to each individual.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I have always been an independent learner, however going through the tutorial system at Oxford has been a fantastic experience. The different approaches of tutors to impart their knowledge, along with their encouragement and adaptability, have been a great inspiration to me.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Knowledgeable and approachable. I have always been very academic, with first-hand experience excelling in all the subjects I tutor. Every student will have different goals and levels of confidence and I fully appreciate this; I am friendly and approachable, always offering support and encouraging questions.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

My degree was impacted by the pandemic. Tutorials were temporarily moved online, and so the methods used by tutors to teach were adapted. This experience has been so valuable for my approach to tutoring online.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

Throughout school, many students find exams daunting and I was no different. I strive to encourage and improve the confidence of students in our lessons as I am fully aware of the importance of this.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I am, and always have been, fascinated by science and maths. Along with enjoying engaging with students, this has translated into a passion for teaching and supporting students in reaching their potential.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

I am a very experienced tutor having helped over 40 students across all ages and abilities. I have recently been through the education system and succeeded in achieving top grades (12A* at GCSE, and A*A*A*A at A-level). Through tutorials at Oxford University, I am comfortable in a tuition setting and well-practiced at communicating difficult concepts. I am friendly and approachable, encouraging students to build confidence and ensuring they get the most out of our time.
