About James
I am passionate about the intersection of biology and the humanities. Therefore, I often tutor in a way that stimulates creative and critical thinking. I believe the learning is lifelong and I strive to create a friendly and inclusive environment for all students.
With Biology, I have taught at all levels. I have taught 10 year olds who want to be challenged beyond the syllabus. I have also taught students to University/Masters level and proof-read their thesis. I have helped disillusioned students realise that science can be for them.
I teach English literature & language, and Latin. I also teach Chemistry and Maths. With Latin, I have an unconventional background - I’m not a classicist by training, but I have studied it to an advanced level and use it frequently to inform my creative writing and medical/biological tutoring.
Beyond teaching, I have training in intentional peer support, via a mental health charity. I have had pro-rata teaching contracts with secondary schools for GCSE students. I also teach international students, according to different time zones.

I tailor my lessons according to the student’s goals and needs. I striveto make the syllabus as relevant to their lives as possible and I believe in holistic development, as well as academic success. In my lessons, I help students learn how to be more precise, support them through past paper levels of difficulty and help them make the subject their own.

AWESOME TUTOR!!!! Had James for a sci-fi creative writing course and it was v v inspiring :)))
James is an outstanding tutor. My son always comes out of his lessons feeling enriched and he has guided my three children and different stages of their life - 13+ at a British independent school and also to sophomore year, when we began to move countries. He manages to always link the curriculum to current affairs. Each of my children have different needs; one is too relaxed, the other is too harsh on themselves. James was able to guide each of them with ease and has taught them several subjects ranging from English to IB Biology. We will miss him greatly!
An incredible tutor. I've gone from hating English to loving it. I always enjoy his lessons. Some of them have been challenging, but it's so rewarding.
