About Katiana
My recent positions have intersected sports, media & technology, education, politics, and storytelling.
After graduating, during the pandemic, I worked at a newer agency called Slay Model Management - an exclusively-trans model agency. I moved out to Los Angeles from Denver to establish accounting for the agency and its productions, moved into and managed a photo studio in Downtown LA. We provided a safe haven for our trans models and artists to come create and demonstrate true allyship with intention.
My final project was to produce our annual competition show, Slay Model Search, filmed for HereTV, where the model director and I cast 30 transwomen from around the country to compete to get signed to the agency. I served as model coordinator.
Currently, as an outdoor educator and backpacking guide, I lead groups of 10-15 children (ages 10 - 15) throughout the Four Corners wilderness. Every young backpacker and camper became well adept in understanding and applying the principles of Leave No Trace, preparing and eating timely and prudent meals for backpacking and on the road, and the differences between the various lands of which we trekked. Over time, the outdoors modules I developed had to be amended to meet the various needs of the young campers, from all around the country. My role as the group leader lent my days to be consumed with a flexible but concentrated curriculum, bridging adventure with culture, science, art, and cooking. The lessons on each trek were centered around skill development, imagination, exploration, problem solving, survival, and team building.

At CU (‘19), the CU Writing Center employed me in a steady position as a tutor, assisting undergraduates, faculty, and graduate students with writing assignments from an array of disciplines offered on campus and foreign to its curricula. I learned theories and the practices of (writing/reading) pedagogy and how to accommodate different learning styles with compassion.
Right after college, I wrote bi-weekly newsletters on the USA frisbee community for The Upwind Institute, a sports nonprofit with the mission to research, create, & disseminate policies in sports that promote equity.
I now do freelance work with Ultiworld, a sports media company that covers ultimate frisbee at all levels around the world. While niche, it maintains a global audience of 41,000 followers and subscribers. As an elite frisbee player myself, I was invited to play in an all-Black tour this past fall spanning across the United States for three games. My duties consist of work centered around hosting, writing, and editing a podcast series that covered this tour and involved player interviews from across the country.
