About Layla
I am a sophomore at the University of Tennessee, with dual enrollment credits placing me ahead on my academic track. I have been writing since elementary school (admittedly occasionally forgoing my school work to write short stories on the back of the pages). I am a published author of both short stories and a children's book, and have experience in undergraduate research in the field of zooarchaeology and history. My experience as someone pursuing a life-long passion has taught me that every child has a spark inside of them - they simply need someone to fan the flames and tell them that, no matter what, they deserve to fight for their right to make their mark in the world. I strive to teach them exactly how to do that using the power of words, which they already have at their fingertips.

- I believe every child deserves the opportunity to find a passion in literature, writing, and language arts, and I teach with patience, compassion, and encouragement.
- Depending on the student's reading level, I will find short stories, articles, etc. that will challenge the student to learn reading comprehension and critical thinking.
- The student will have the opportunity to write their own literature using what they have learned, and will learn how to formulate their thoughts in informative and persuasive settings.
- I will tutor students of any reading level, K-12.
