About Shayna Gail
Hi, I’m Shayna Gail, a UCL Arts & Sciences student specialising in science and engineering. I started tutoring because I’ve seen how often students struggle with maths, not from lack of ability, but from unclear explanations and exam pressure. I aim to make maths feel logical and manageable rather than overwhelming.
I’m patient and structured in my teaching, and I adapt my pace depending on the student, particularly for those who feel anxious about the subject. My goal is always long-term confidence, not short-term memorisation, so students leave lessons understanding why methods work, not just how to copy them.

My lessons are interactive and paced around the student rather than the textbook. We spend time diagnosing exactly where marks are being lost, whether that’s misunderstanding questions, weak algebra foundations, or exam timing, and then target those gaps directly. I regularly use worked examples, mini-quizzes, and verbal reasoning so students can explain their thinking, which helps knowledge stick.
Sessions are typically 60 minutes. They suit Years 9–11 students preparing for GCSE assessments, especially those who feel stuck at a grade boundary or unsure how to revise effectively. I focus on building independent problem-solving so students become less reliant on help over time.
The first session is a short diagnostic meeting used to identify gaps and plan a structured programme rather than a full teaching lesson.

Details
The first session is a relaxed diagnostic where I see how the student thinks through questions and where they get stuck. From there I build a simple plan focused on exam technique, confidence, and avoiding common mistakes. Lessons are structured but informal where students can ask anything and we work through problems together rather than just watching me demonstrate.
Most students book weekly to build consistency, and lesson packs help keep progress steady leading up to exams.
