About Jamie
As a qualified teacher with a PGCE and QTS in Science, I bring a professional, proven approach to tutoring. I hold a BSc in Science (Chemistry Major) and an MSc in Cheminformatics from the University of Manchester, with expertise in molecular modelling, computational chemistry, and theoretical chemistry. With over three years of experience teaching GCSE and A-Level Chemistry, as well as mentoring undergraduate students at Manchester University, I understand how to help students of all abilities excel. My current roles as a Visiting Fellow in Enterprise AI at Manchester Metropolitan University and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Statistics further showcase my dedication to education, analytical thinking, and innovative learning approaches. Although I no longer work in the teaching profession full-time, I continue to tutor because I am deeply passionate about Chemistry and helping students succeed. I focus on tailoring each lesson to the specific needs and goals of my students. My approach combines clear explanations of key concepts, interactive problem-solving, and real-world applications to make Chemistry relatable and engaging. I aim to build a solid foundation of understanding while also developing students' critical thinking and exam strategies. Key techniques I use include: Breaking down complex topics into manageable, easy-to-understand steps. Using visual aids, diagrams, and practical examples to reinforce learning. Encouraging active participation through discussions and questions to ensure comprehension. Providing structured practice and targeted feedback to build confidence and mastery. Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, although this can be adjusted to meet the student’s preferences and learning needs. For more intensive exam preparation, I also offer longer sessions or focused revision workshops. I bring a wealth of experience and academic expertise to my tutoring: PGCE with QTS in Science (University of Manchester) – Qualified teacher with a focus on Chemistry. MSc in Cheminformatics (University of Manchester) – Advanced knowledge in computational and theoretical chemistry. BSc in Science (Chemistry Major) – Strong foundation in core Chemistry principles. Teaching Experience: Currently not teaching, but previously have three years teaching GCSE and A-Level Chemistry in schools. Previous undergraduate tutor at the University of Manchester. Currently Visiting Fellow in Enterprise AI at Manchester Metropolitan University. Professional Recognition: Fellow of the Royal Society of Statistics and a doctoral candidate in Data Science.
