About Clemmie

I have 15 years experience as a theatre director and dramaturg. My previous work includes for Shakespeare’s Globe, Sonia Friedman Productions, Eleanor Loyd Productions, BBC Radio 4 Drama, in the West End and at theatres across the UK. I have been Associate Director on Olivier-nominated ‘Witness for the Prosecution’ at London County Hall since 2018. I also teach regularly in leading London drama schools.

You can find more information on my previous work and current projects via my website: clemmie reynolds.com

I have been lucky enough to work with many actors from all walks of life with wide-ranging experience; from professional, non-professional, untrained, in-training, children and young people.

I love working with actors to hone skills, develop versatility and - more than anything - to build confidence!

I can work with you on material to help you prepare for professional theatre or screen auditions. I can work with you on your drama school monologue and help you prepare for interviews and multi-stage auditions. We can work on a script you are rehearsing and just want a safe space to work on your character/text away from rehearsals. Or you can bring a text you’ve always wanted
to work on to continue your professional development and hone skills. I am also happy to work on dualogues or scenes if you and your scene partner(s) would like some extra support and an outside eye.

The 60 minutes is  yours to use in whatever way you want;
to help you nail your audition, feel confident in rehearsals or on set, or access a space where you can continue to develop as an actor and be the best you can be. I look forward to working and discovering  together!

I am a kind, patient and friendly person and my main aim is to make you feel comfortable and confident so you can do your best work! I aim to create a relaxed and low pressure environment where we can play, create and have fun with a text. I have worked with a wide variety of actors in the past, ranging from professional actors in the UK’s top theatres; to training actors in top London Conservatoires; to young actors auditioning for drama schools; to non-professional actors in community plays; to school children working on LAMDA exams. I love working with actors regardless of past experience, training, background, age.

  • 1) When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?

I started tutoring English after I finished my BA English degree at Bristol University in 2009- helping students develop skills and confidence at school during GCSE and A Level, ahead of and during university and then lateras a second language.
Alongside tutoring I have worked as a theatre director and dramaturg since 2011 including at Shakespeare’s Globe, in the West End and at leading London drama schools; I have been coaching actors, teaching LAMDA exams, preparing actors for auditions and working with writers since 2015.
  • 2) Which artists or works affect you the most?

Shakespeare is the writer I always come back to for storytelling, theatricality, emotional impact - and the most wonderful challenge for actors!
  • 3) What are the qualities and skill required to succeed in this area?

You need to be patient and resilient. It can take a long time to develop a career in theatre an and the arts in general and you have to be prepared for a lot of rejections and knock-backs as it is a competitive industry. You have to be able to pick yourself back up and try again - again and again! In terms of learning English, you need to have a keen eye for detail, to understand what is it the examiner is looking for, be willing to learn and utilise a clear structure, and keep practicing- especially essays!
  • 4) What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?

Just keep going and don’t give up! Failure is very useful as it’s an opportunity for learning. Do ask for help from others. Do try to share your ups and downs with friends and family. Stay present and try to enjoy the creative journey rather than seeing it as a means to an end.
  • 5) How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?

Working with students of all ages whether I’m teaching them English or coaching them in acting or playwriting is a huge pleasure and a privilege. I love seeing their progress, and what they go on to do next. It’s lovely spending time with people who are eager to learn, keen to improve and thirsty for knowledge - it’s very inspiring and invigorating!
  • 6) What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?

I’m very proud of the projects I’ve worked on in the theatre - such as working at Shakespeare’s Globe, in the West End, as Associate Director of ‘Witness For The Prosecution’ at London County Hall. I’m proud of the achievements of my students over the years too - from getting their desired place at university or drama school, or landing the job they wanted; or that LAMDA grade; or whatever it is - it’s an honour to be a small part of that journey.
  • 7) Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?

Yes! I’m always impressed by my students. It can be daunting to want to learn or develop skills and knowledge at any age and requires bravery to seek out a tutor and start a journey of learning!
  • 8) Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?

I just try to put my students at ease. I try to be very positive and encouraging as I think students of any subject, age or experience do their best work when they are relaxed and feeling confident.
