About Lauren

I am currently a student at the University of Glasgow in my second year of study. I love teaching music as I enjoy sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm for music with others, inspiring more people to fall in love with music, be it as a hobby to relax with, a class you take at school or even as a future career. I think that musical education is vital to everyone and I hope that I am able to facilitate the next generation of young musicians to share that same love and determination. I also find it rewarding helping people understand and learn new things and I hope that by passing on my knowledge and experience in music they will learn something new.

About the lesson

I am aware that the vast world of music can feel intimidating but I also believe that everyone learns differently so my aim is to work with what methods work for that person. This includes using practical examples using a piano to visualise things as well as a textbook written approach. Overall the best way to learn it is to do it and I will go through questions and examples then see how they are understanding it allowing them to do some individual work also. This is useful for both school exams and graded theory exams which I have plenty experience teaching both of these to different levels starting from a complete beginner. For early years, I appreciate that children can find it very overwhelming. this is where my experience of working with young children comes in handy, finding practical and fun ways to learn different styles and notation of music. A typical lesson can be anywhere from 30mins to 1hour with the ability to do longer if required for example just before an exam or during school holidays. I am able to teach any age from 6 and up and am able to teach National 5 music up to Advanced Higher Music, as well as Music Theory up to grade 5 and Early years music classes as I have experience teaching all of these. I have also been through all of these achieving A1's and a distinction in my grade 5 theory exam. Due to Covid, most of the lessons will take place online with the ability further down the line to do in person socially distanced lessons with the correct safety precautions in place as I understand that zoom lessons simply aren't engaging enough for some people. I am also a certified first aider with a full pvg for adults and children through both girl guiding and first aiding.
