About Brandon

Looking back on my own education, I’ve realised that success in school isn’t just about exams — it’s about consistency, balance, and learning how to study effectively without burning out. Many of the most useful study skills I developed came after leaving secondary school, and I’ve seen firsthand the positive difference they can make.

From experience, I’ve found that cramming and memorisation only go so far. The most effective way to learn is by understanding a subject as it’s intended — breaking problems down, applying core principles, and combining knowledge logically to reach a solution. This approach builds real confidence, especially in exams, where questions often test understanding rather than recall.

By focusing on first principles, students become less intimidated by challenging questions and more comfortable tackling unfamiliar problems. Instead of being surprised by complexity, they learn to approach every question with the same clear process. I’ve seen many friends, family members, and classmates struggle not due to a lack of effort or ability, but because topics were never explained properly or revision was focused in the wrong way. Helping someone reach the point where things finally *click* and their confidence grows is something I genuinely enjoy.

Alongside my academic studies, I have informal tutoring experience, having supported friends and family across Maths and Science subjects.

Outside of academics, I enjoy athletics and basketball, cooking, and strategy-based games. I’m also a keen plant-keeper, with a growing collection that’s doing well so far. I’m friendly, patient, and calm in lessons, and I aim to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace.

My aim is always to help students feel more confident, capable, and in control of their learning. I’m happy to answer any questions and discuss whether I’d be a good fit for you or your child.

My lessons are student-centred, structured, and results-driven, with a strong focus on building deep understanding first, then applying it confidently to exam questions.

I teach using a principles-first → complexity approach. This means we start by ensuring the underlying concepts are fully understood, before gradually introducing harder problems and exam-style questions. This helps students avoid memorisation and instead develop strong problem-solving and logical thinking skills that transfer across topics and papers.

Lessons are fully adapted to the student’s pace, learning style, and goals. I encourage questions, break down difficult ideas step by step, and regularly check understanding so nothing is rushed or assumed.

For exam preparation, I focus heavily on:
Exam technique and common pitfalls
Clear, methodical working
Confidence under timed conditions

I also revisit past topics regularly to ensure knowledge is retained, not forgotten.

I aim to make early lessons approachable and confidence-building, especially for students who feel behind or anxious.

Typical lesson length: 60 minutes (longer sessions available)

First session usually includes a diagnostic assessment to identify strengths and weak areas

Each lesson has clear objectives and ends with a short summary of progress

Optional homework and practice questions are set where appropriate

Notes and guidance can be shared after lessons
