About Nadira

I am extremely proficient in high-school math and physics, maintaining a distinction for both subjects often displaying marks of 90% and above. I started by helping my friends with understanding certain concepts in math and physics and through their feedback, I realized that I could use my skills to help so many others. Furthermore, I've always had a passion for learning and it would be my dream to enable someone else to learn and discover new and amazing things every day. I do intend to become a lecturer in STEM and I feel that tutoring is an excellent way to build the skills I need while gaining experience.

What makes me different from other tutors is the fact that I am able to relate to the struggles you might have as someone who doesn't understand a certain way of thinking. I'm good at identifying where this problem is rooted and working with you to improve on it. I believe in the potential of every single student and I find my passion in helping them to learn and enabling them to discover the beauty of learning. I am proficient in tutoring in English only. In a typical tutoring session with me, you can expect a patient approach backed with preparation and all the resources you'll need to succeed. My lessons are aimed at students in grades 8 to 10 who struggle particularly with maths and physics.

  • When did you develop an interest in your subject and in private tutoring?

Since I was very young, I've had a knack for teaching my peers and helping them understand different kinds of concepts, specifically in math and physics. With regard to the subjects themselves, understanding them has always been very intuitive for me, which is why I find it easier to teach others by sharing my own learning process. I have wanted to start private tutoring since I started high school, and in grades 10 and 11, that desire translated into action when I began putting my profile out there for clients.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I think math and physics are two of the most beautiful subjects, and even more beautiful than that is the learning process behind them. In my own life, I've always loved learning new ideas and tying them in with what I already know. One thing I love discussing with my students is how we can turn complex examples into relatable, everyday ideas.
  • Did you have any role models? Perhaps a teacher that inspired you?

In primary school, I didn't have many teachers that I particularly looked up to, but I've always had a clear image of what I wanted to be in terms of a teacher and tutor. In high school, however, that changed—especially in grade 11 with my life sciences teacher. I loved her lessons, and I found it incredibly inspiring how passionate she was about teaching the subject.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Definitely patience. A good tutor needs to understand that every student learns at a different pace, and your job is to do your best to support them and build their confidence in the subject. Understanding and good organizational skills are also key qualities of a great tutor.
  • Could you share an anecdote related to your subject or your student days?

One story always sticks out to me from primary school. When we were learning about the number line, my math teacher used the example that by adding something negative to your life, you become negative, and by taking it away, you become more positive. What stuck with me isn't necessarily that specific idea, but rather the fact that you can always tie these subjects into practical life lessons.
  • Did you face any difficulties at school or university?

I've faced many difficulties when learning new concepts, even in math and science. However, I believe that is exactly what strengthens me as a tutor; it has allowed me to gain a better perspective on how someone else might struggle and what tools could help them understand.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general, an element of this particular subject, or something completely different?

I have a huge passion for math and physics, and my goals for the future are to study mathematics, physics, and astrophysics, with the ultimate goal of becoming a lecturer in astrophysics.
  • What makes you a Superprof?

I believe the key to being deemed a Superprof is being able to acknowledge that every child has an enormous capacity to learn, and some students just need a bit of extra guidance in order to fulfill their full potential.
