About Jan
I am an enthusiastic and dedicated individual with a passion for education and a diverse background that makes me a well-rounded tutor. As a Policy Officer at DFAT, I have honed my analytical and problem-solving skills, which I believe are valuable assets in guiding students through their academic challenges. Having had the privilege of travelling extensively, I bring a unique perspective and a deep appreciation for cultural diversity to my teaching approach. When I'm not working or tutoring, you'll find me outdoors, either hiking, skiing, playing tennis or AFL. I also have a strong sense for giving back to the community and I actively volunteer and engage in various community events to make a positive impact. Teaching, learning and education is a genuine passion of mine and I find immense joy in helping students discover their potential, encouraging critical thinking, and instilling a lifelong love for learning.

My teaching methodology is centred on personalised instruction, tailoring my teaching approach to each student's unique strengths and weaknesses. I focus on building a strong rapport and creating a supportive learning environment that enhances engagement and motivation. My style is interactive and hands-on, allowing students to actively participate in their learning. I incorporate real-world examples and practical applications to help students grasp complex concepts and understand their relevance. Finally, I encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills to empower students to become independent learners and thinkers.
A typical length of a lesson is one hour but can be tailored to suit the individual needs of a student.
I have a Bachelor of Biomedicine, majoring in Neuroscience from the University of Melbourne and a Master of International Relations and Mandarin from Peking University in China. I have tutored privately for 4 years during my studies.
My lessons would be for students from Years 8 to Undergraduate university.
