About Karissa
Having sometimes struggled in mathematics growing up, I know how important a tutor can be in helping to regain confidence when lost. I aim to be able to encourage students to never give up and keep practicing. Everyone learns differently and finding the right approach is what makes the difference. In addition to my majors in school, I was also the undergraduate departmental representative of the History of Art Department at Brandeis University during my senior year where I mentored students in different topics. I would tutor on the side for art history and exams relating to them.

In my lessons, I utilize visuals to help involve my students with practicing critical techniques of analyzing art history and connecting it to research. I plan lessons around what students need assistance with, and cater around what makes it easiest for them to grasp different contents.
I start most lessons with both a starting, short warm up questions and an ice breaker. I bring examples of artwork in context of what time period, style, or artist we are learning about that session.
I will also go through writings and how to write an analysis of multiple artworks at once to strengthen writing skills. I love to see students’ growth in confidence and passion for the subject as sessions go on!
I also teach general history at all levels. I’ve tutored elementary school in the past to help strengthen foundational skills. I’ve also assisted students with the AP US History exam, as I had gotten a 4/5 on mine.
