About Annie
I was nominated by my undergraduate university's composition faculty to become a peer writing tutor with the UIC Writing Center, where I received specialized training to work with other undergraduate and graduate students seeking assistance with their academic writing. Once hired, I worked no fewer than 15 hours weekly one-on-one and in small groups to discuss prompts, plan and map compositions of all subject matter, and work on compositions at every stage of the editorial process. I received uniquely high reviews from students of all ages and backgrounds, and I found the work incredibly rewarding. After graduating, my first master's degree, an MFA in creative writing, was attained at Cornell University, where I was selected from hundreds for one of four available and fully-funded spots within the program. Helping people learn how to craft their individual voices at the collegiate level and in academic environments became a practice I have made my career, as I have had the pleasure to teach composition, critical analysis, and creative writing at private and public universities as well as community colleges. I am someone who lives to serve people looking to learn and grow on the page as much as in how they think.

I take a strengths-based approach to tutoring, and I take time to engage with people authentically. I make it a priority to first understand what the end goals are in seeking tutoring in the first place. From there, I craft with each person a specific learning plan, moving forward by way of mastery and only once skills have been appropriately developed for the tasks at hand. From start to finish, I check in and make sure you as the person coming to me for assistance are confident with the work accomplished, letting you decide when the work is finished.
