About Richard
Hello, my name is Richard. I have an MA in English Literature (Distinction) and BA Hons (First Class). Upon completion of my MA at the University of Liverpool, I was also awarded the Departmental Prize for 2023-24. I am about to begin a PhD in English and I am also working towards completion of a monologue on 'Dickens and Apocalypse' for future publication.
For over five years, I have taught students from a wide range of backgrounds. Recently, I moved into private tuition. My experience is mostly in 1-to-1 tutoring, although I have taught groups of up to three. During this time, I have developed a detailed knowledge of current GCSE and A-level syllabi across the major examination boards (AQA, Edexcel). I know what examiners look for in a top answer, in both content and structure.
I possess a wide knowledge of literature, ranging across all genres.
Every student is a unique individual and my flexible approach to tutoring meets this reality; it is based on finding the teaching method(s) that work best for the individual learner. I believe encouraging students to actively apply, rather than regurgitate, knowledge is essential for effective learning. Exam preparation and the teaching of past papers / questions is at the heart of my tuition.

I provide 1:1 tuition in GCSE and A Level English Language / Literature, with focus on past papers and essay structure. Lessons typically one hour. Three years' experience with excellent results in voluntary and private sector. Ages 14+ adults also welcome.
