About Michelle
Hello there!
My name is Michelle McIntyre but everyone calls me Shelly, and I'm really excited to be your tutor. I want to take a moment to introduce myself and share a little bit about my background and why I'm so passionate about the subject we'll be exploring together.
I hold a BSE in Early Childhood, an MSE in Reading and Math, a licensure certificate in Special Education, and ESOL from many different colleges, and I have been deeply immersed in this field for 19 years.
But what truly fuels my enthusiasm for this subject is my love of learning and teaching students to see that light bulb go off. Whether it was a fascinating class, a mentor who inspired me, or a real-world application that I found incredibly exciting, I've always believed that reading and math is not just a collection of facts and formulas; it's a powerful tool that can help us understand and change the world around us.
My goal as your tutor is to share this excitement and help you not only master the subject but also see the real-world relevance and possibilities it offers. I'm here to support you, answer your questions, and make our learning journey engaging and enjoyable.
I believe that everyone has the potential to excel in reading and math, and I'm here to help you unlock your full potential. We'll work together, overcome challenges, and celebrate your successes along the way.
So, let's dive into the world of reading and math, explore its wonders, and embark on a journey of knowledge and discovery. I'm here to assist you every step of the way, and I can't wait to see the amazing progress we'll make together!
If you have any questions or want to share your thoughts or goals, please feel free to do so. Let's get started on this exciting educational adventure!

As a tutor, my approach is centered on creating a supportive and effective learning environment that caters to the individual needs and learning styles of my students. Here is a detailed explanation of my approach and how I share my knowledge:
1. Assessment and Individualization: I begin by assessing the student's current level of understanding and identifying their strengths and weaknesses. This allows me to create a personalized learning plan that focuses on areas where the student needs the most help. I believe that individualization is key to effective teaching.
2. Setting Clear Goals: Together with the student, I establish clear, achievable goals for our tutoring sessions. These goals serve as benchmarks for progress and motivation for the student. It's essential that the student has a sense of purpose and direction in their learning.
3. Interactive and Engaging Sessions: I strive to make our tutoring sessions interactive and engaging. I use a variety of teaching methods, such as discussions, practical examples, hands-on activities, and visual aids, to ensure that the learning process is stimulating and memorable.
4. Encouragement and Positive Reinforcement: I believe in providing positive reinforcement and encouragement to boost the student's confidence. A positive and supportive atmosphere fosters a willingness to learn and take risks.
5. Adaptability: I adapt my teaching approach to the student's learning style. Some students are visual learners, while others are more auditory or kinesthetic. By recognizing and catering to their preferred learning style, I can make the learning experience more effective and enjoyable.
6. Practical Application: I emphasize the practical application of knowledge. I show students how the concepts they are learning can be applied in real-life situations. This not only helps with understanding but also with motivation.
7. Problem-Solving: I encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Rather than providing answers, I guide the student to find solutions independently, which enhances their ability to think critically and solve problems on their own.
8. Open Communication: I maintain open and effective communication with the students and, if applicable, their parents or guardians. Regular feedback and progress reports are shared to keep everyone informed about the student's development.
9. Resource Sharing: I provide additional resources, such as books, online materials, or practice exercises, to support the student's learning outside of our tutoring sessions. These resources can help reinforce what they have learned and encourage independent study.
10. Lifelong Learning: I lead by example in promoting a love for lifelong learning. I demonstrate my own enthusiasm for learning and share my experiences of personal growth and self-improvement to inspire students to embrace education as a continuous journey.
11. Patience and Empathy: I approach my students with patience and empathy. I understand that learning can be challenging, and I am always ready to provide emotional support, especially when students face difficulties.
Overall, my tutoring approach is student-centered, adaptable, and focused on fostering a deep understanding of the subject matter while instilling a passion for learning. I aim to empower my students to become independent learners who are confident in their abilities to tackle academic challenges and achieve their educational goals.
