I am a dedicated educator with 14 years of experience in elementary education and a deep passion for helping students unlock their full potential. My professional foundation includes a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master’s degree in Special Education, complemented by a specialized Reading Endorsement. With a Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education and a Master’s in Special Education (Reading Endorsement), I bring 14 years of classroom experience to every session. My approach is rooted in the Science of Reading, ensuring that literacy isn't just about memorization, but about mastering the foundational building blocks of language.
My Teaching Method & Techniques
I utilize a multisensory, Orton-Gillingham-based approach to make reading "stick." Because every child learns differently, I integrate visual, auditory, and kinesthetic techniques. Whether we are using "sand writing" for phonics or color-coded text for fluency, I ensure the lessons are as engaging as they are effective. I specialize in identifying and closing learning gaps, particularly for students who may struggle with dyslexia or other processing challenges.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Each 60-minute session is structured to maximize growth while keeping students motivated:
The Warm-Up (5 mins): Phonemic awareness "word play" to get the brain ready.
Phonics Power (15 mins): Explicit instruction on a new sound-spelling pattern or "heart words."
Fluency & Guided Reading (20 mins): Applying new skills to high-quality, decodable text.
Vocabulary & Comprehension (15 mins): Deep-diving into the "why" and "how" of the story.
The Wrap-Up (5 mins): Progress check and a "win" to build confidence before the next session.
