About Derrick
I am currently a graduate student at Columbia studying Quantitative Social Sciences. I also majored in Mathematical Economics and History as an undergraduate in UW-Madison.
I have experience providing private lessons in high school Math and History. I also spent 3 months in China teaching English to students across a wide age range. In my old job, I also spent a lot of time explaining macroeconomic concepts to an audience that often includes laypeople.

I'm super patient and love coming up with ways to explain tricky concepts (I once planned a hypothetical data science lecture series in my head). I also have a strong personal interest in philosophy and intellectual history, so I can definitely incorporate a lot of "why is this important" segments if you're interested!
Here's what a typical lesson plan might look like for math:
- Review previous lesson
- Go over and explain new concepts
- Work through particularly challenging (or illuminating) problems together. This is very important for math!
For say, a history course, we'll be more flexible, with a general mix of explaining the course's general content and exploring the important reading materials it involves.
