About Emma
As someone who grew up in a bilingual household, I developed a natural ability to connect with both English and Mandarin Chinese speakers from a young age. This early exposure helped shape my passion for teaching and cross-cultural communication. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching both Mandarin and piano to students of various ages and backgrounds. Through this experience, I’ve learned how to adapt my teaching approach to suit each student’s unique learning style—especially when it comes to explaining pronunciation, tones, and musical pitch in ways that are easy to understand, regardless of their first language. Drawing from both the music and language worlds, I place strong emphasis on clear, engaging instruction using visual aids, storytelling, and interactive activities. These techniques not only make learning enjoyable but also help reinforce understanding and retention. I bring patience, structure, and creativity to every lesson, ensuring that students feel supported and confident as they grow in their skills. My approach to tutoring is student-centred and tailored to each learner’s needs. I use clear explanations, visuals, games, and real-life examples to teach Mandarin, and structured techniques, ear training, and creative expression to teach piano. Lessons are typically 45–60 minutes long, depending on age and level. I hold 4 years of teaching experience, with experience teaching both children and adults of all levels, from complete beginners to intermediate learners. My classes are designed to be engaging, supportive, and fun—whether you're learning Mandarin for travel or school, or piano for enjoyment or skill-building.
